Small moments

I’m starting a practice of reflection. With life moving so fast and the new reality l’m creating of simplicity, I wanted to honor this entire journey by celebrating the “smaller” moments in life. If this sounds appealing to you, I encourage you to join me and share in the comments below.

one.

walking in nature. no music, no podcast, no phone. just me and the sounds of the mountain life. It’s like a walking meditation. When was the last time you walked without distraction? Simply to move your body and be present to nature? It’s uncomfortable at first because I used to use a walk as time to catch up on social media, podcast, or a chat with a girlfriend. It took sometime to deprogram the busyness out of me but once I did, I started to feel so nourished.

two.

My schedule has altered and I’ve had to make space for raking, trimming and tending to the land daily. We have 10 acres right now and It’s rocky terrain so it requires patience and mindfulness when cleaning the brush. I walk it daily and can get so far ahead of myself that I want it all done now but we are only 2 people - doing multiple tasks. I  am learning to practice patience and to prioritize the immediate area where we are temporarily set up.  We have a good process right now that seems to be working.  We have compost piles of the brush and pine needles set up in each area; any fallen twigs and branches are being saved to use for our planting area for raised beds in our Hugulkutlure method of planting.  I learned this practice from Erika Nolan @instargardens. She has been a wealth of knowledge for me.  I’ve also started doing electroculture on our trees. I use a wood dowel or stick and wrapping copper wire around it and place it in the earth next to what I want to grow.

three.

I’m loving our new 100% linen bedding from Quince. New move, new bed meant new bedding. I’ve been reading about the importance of wearing or sleeping in linen or cotton and Quince has so many affordable options without sacrificing quality or integrity.

What are you loving right now that you’d like to share?
